Separating Discourse from Practice: What Does the Future Hold for Women in Afghanistan?

The 6th volume of the Women and Public Policy Journal includes 11 articles by Afghan women researchers, academics, and practitioners titled “Separating Discourse from Practice: What Does the Future Hold for Women in Afghanistan?” This year’s journal attempts to present a clearer and more grounded picture of how far Afghan women have actually come in the last two decades (post-2001) and provides concrete policy recommendations to assist national and international policymakers in plugging these gaps as the country enters a new decade, one that will be unapologetically measured against how it achieves self-reliance and local ownership in its pursuit for sustainable peace.

نخستین شمارۀ ژورنال زنان و صلح‌سازی افغانستان به موضوع «زنان و صلح‌سازی در افغانستانِ پسا 2001: تحلیل‌ها و آموخته‌ها» اختصاص یافته است. در این شماره 11 پژوهش‌گر زن، از کابل و ولایات، در 11 مقالۀ پژوهشی برنامه‌های مختلف صلح‌سازی را که به منظور زمینه‌سازی برای دسترسی زنان به حقوق بشری شان و افزایش میزان مشارکت آنها در بخش‌های مختلف جامعه از سوی افغانستان و جامعۀ بین‌المللی طراحی و تطبیق شده است، مورد کنکاش و تحلیل منتقدانه قرار داده‌اند. هدف این ژورنال تولید ادبیات مبتنی بر شواهد است که برای بهبود ابتکارها و برنامه‌های صلح‌سازی در زمینۀ افغانستان زمینه‌های دیگر مورد استفاده قرار بگیرد.

The 1st Vol. of the journal is dedicated to the theme of “Women and Peacebuilding in Afghanistan Post-2001: Analyses and Lessons Learned,” in which 11 Case Studies have been contributed by Afghan women authors from Kabul and the provinces exploring different international and locally led peacebuilding programs that were designed to create spaces for women to access their rights and increase their participation in all sectors of Afghan society. The aim of the journal is to provide a body of evidenced-based literature that could improve the implementation of peacebuilding initiatives in Afghanistan and in other contexts.

2014-2015 WPPJ: The past, present, and future of democratic governance in Afghanistan: What are the challenges and How can we fix them?
WPPJ addresses the gaps in strengthening democratic governance in Afghanistan and provides recommendations on how the National Unity Government can plug these gaps as it transitions into the Decade of Transformation. The journal identifies an array of issues that have hindered the consolidation of democratic governance in Afghanistan through a rigors examination of specific MDGs underscoring their challenges and providing policy recommendations on how to address them in the decade ahead. It highlights issues that range from health care, HIV/AIDs pandemic, education, security, corruption, civil service reform and regional cooperation. The publication of the Peer Review is the first public policy journal in Afghanistan that is authored by women and reviewed by international scholars.
