Multilateral workshop titled “Transnational Threats and Borders: Challenges and Opportunities for Regional Security.”
The Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS) conducted a multilateral workshop titled “Transnational Threats and Borders: Challenges and Opportunities for Regional Security” on April 26-28. 2016. The workshop, co-hosted by the United Service Institution of India (USI) was held in New Delhi, India.
The format of the three-day workshop included discussion on:
Electronic polling to assist in informing the dialogue; topical presentations from distinguished experts; and discussions among participants on the topic of cross-border issues and potential paths forward toward addressing regional factors contributing to insurgency and terrorism.
The objectives of the workshop was to:
1. Identify transnational challenges across borders and their impact on security in South Asia
2. Identify areas of cooperation among the participating nations for future collaboration to address the security impacts of transnational challenges
3. Propose ways ahead for pursuing collaboration to building stronger cross-border ties
DROPS Researcher, Mr. Amran Fatih, offered a presentation on Regional Economic Cooperation economic through the development lens. His presentation was described Afghanistan’s historical role in the region’s economy, its economic development post-2001, and identified the challenges preventing Afghanistan and it’s neighbors from building regional economic cooperation.
